Abstract
This paper aims to develop the idea of Gutiérrez Girardot that the Aristotelian-Thomist stream modelled the Latin-American social structure; which ended up in farms as forms of socialization or the “big house” model. Furthermore, the paper goes beyond Gutiérrez Girardot’s theory, and follows Fernando Guillén Martínez and Orlando Fals Borda. These authors explain the evolution of the encomienda model to the farms and political parties, which partly determines the social and political behavior of the region. The text also arguments, based on Gutiérrez, that Spanish racism formed aristocracies that eventually created the social aristocratic constitution. This implied the undermining of democracy and the reproduction of violence. In the Colombian case, violence is intrinsic to the social structure formed under the Aristotelian-Thomist model.
