Abstract

The cemetery is in the city, one of the most important symbolic spaces. As a whole is a "text" in which the social contradictions and the guidelines that encourage urban dynamics, the architectural trends, forms of religiosity, and the value that society has of life, can be read. In this graphic report a basic theoretical framework is raised for analyzing forms of ownership that the citizens makes of the city and the concept of urban maps, outlining some lines for the study of the cemetery as a highly symbolic space.

This reflection will be accompanied by a set of photographs taken at the Recoleta cemetery in Buenos Aires.
