Main Article Content
Abstract
This article presents an in-depth interview with Luis Domingo Sánchez Sancho, a Nicaraguan journalist and editorial writer for the newspaper La Prensa, which explores the dynamics of editorial work in the context of authoritarian regimes in Nicaragua. It begins with an introductory framework that defines the editorial genre and its relevance as a space for institutional opinion. The text presents the interviewee's personal and professional trajectory, as well as the political, socio-ethical, and practical tensions that editorial writers face in situations of censorship and government pressure. The case of La Prensa is analyzed as an example of the role of opinion journalism in the defense of democracy, human rights, and independence from political power, highlighting the symbolic and institutional nature of editorials as a collective voice. The article constitutes an empirical approach to the editorial profession, the configuration of opinion discourse in the print media, and the relationship between the press, politics, and society in contexts of democratic crisis, such as the case of Nicaragua.
