  1. SUBMISSION INFORMATION

Two types of articles relating to the field of Communication are accepted: research articles, which present research findings, and reflection articles, which provide academic reflections (including essays, chronicles, critical reviews, or general reflections). The text must be submitted through this OJS platform or via email. Permanent call for papers in Spanish and English. There is no fee for authors to submit or process articles.

Email: revista.comunicacion@upb.edu.co

2. TEXT ORGANIZATION

The document must be prepared in Microsoft Word, letter size, with 3 cm margins on all sides of the page, 1.5 line spacing, Times New Roman font, size 12. Length: between 5,000 and 8,000 words (including tables, figures, bibliography, and notes).

  • Title in Spanish and English.
  • A brief author biography containing first name and both last names, highest degree earned, institutional affiliation, country, email address, and research group membership (if applicable). Orcid Identifier (if you do not have one, you must register at https://orcid.org/register).
  • Analytical abstract in Spanish and English with a maximum length of 300 words, describing the central idea, objectives, methodology, major findings, and conclusions.
  • A minimum of five keywords in Spanish and English.

Texts must follow the structure of a scientific article applied to the Social Sciences. This means it must consist of the following parts:

  • Introduction: answers the question: What problem was studied? It succinctly introduces the reader to the problem statement and how it was addressed (methodology); it also outlines its background and scope.
  • Content: shares the development of the problem, the conceptual tensions identified, and the main findings resulting from the comparison between theory and empirical evidence.
  • Conclusions: answer the question: What do these results mean? They present the reader with existing relationships among the observed facts; they showcase the results without repeating what has already been stated in the content; they point out potential objections and alternative perspectives; they clarify aspects that could not be resolved; they show potential research and reflective prospects; and they provide potential practical implications.
  • References: account for the various academic sources used to carry out the research. Sources cited from the last five years that demonstrate a review of peer-reviewed publications will be highly valued.

Research articles must present results derived from research processes, outline the problem, detail the methodology used, and discuss the study's main findings and conclusions.

Review articles must demonstrate a rigorous literature systematization and analysis exercise. The methodology used must be explained, and a review of at least 30 recent references must be evidenced. The maximum number of authors is three, with the exception of papers that justify a higher, limited number.

3. GUIDELINES FOR IMAGES, ILLUSTRATIONS AND TABLES

Tables and figures must be embedded within the text in Microsoft Word®, placed exactly where the authors intend them to appear. Tables must be created within the Microsoft Word® document itself so that they remain editable. In addition to being embedded in the Microsoft Word® document, figures must be submitted as a supplementary file at the time of submission and must have a resolution higher than 300 dpi (high-resolution images).

4. PUBLISHING POLICY

A letter addressed to the journal's editors in which the author guarantees the originality of the article, that it has not been published elsewhere, and that it is not being simultaneously considered by other journals. It must also include the transfer of all rights to the journal Comunicación, which may publish it in print and electronic formats. Furthermore, authors commit not to withdraw the article once the evaluation process has begun until it is finalized. The template is available at: http://bit.ly/31xEG9i

The journal's management will acknowledge receipt of the contribution to the author within a maximum of three (3) days.

To ensure clarity and transparency in academic and editorial processes, the journal guarantees information confidentiality as well as quality control. Therefore, it will carefully reject papers that are not unpublished and original; that fabricate, falsify, or manipulate data; that present redundant information and data or involve improper or fictitious authorship; that fragment or duplicate information; or texts that are inflated, contain excessive self-citation, list unconsulted references, or show signs of self-plagiarism.

The journal Comunicación will subject all received articles to a preliminary evaluation by the Editorial Committee, which will determine the relevance of its publication. Once approved by the Committee members, it will be sent for review to two anonymous peer reviewers, who will determine if the material is publishable. In the event that one approves it and the other rejects it, a third reviewer will be appointed to resolve the matter.

Under no circumstances will the journal's management force authors to cite content from the journal Comunicación of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana. It will also not publish articles that present conflicts of interest or have issues regarding human ethical standards derived from experimentation.

In the event that an article has been published and contains substantive errors detected by the author that compromise scientific quality, the author may request its withdrawal or correction; however, if plagiarism, prior publication, unethical conduct, or an error is detected by a third party, it is the author's obligation and responsibility to issue a public retraction, which will lead to immediate withdrawal or a public correction. The correction or public retraction will be published in the subsequent print issue of the journal as well as in its digital version.

The journal Comunicación adheres to the ethical standards presented in the Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the International Standards for Editors and Authors published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

It is paramount for the journal Comunicación to protect and guarantee copyright, as materialized in the intellectual and original creation of the articles. Consequently, it abides by Colombian legislation regarding intellectual property and copyright matters, as well as Andean Decision 351 of 1993. Additionally, it considers compliance with the guidelines established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to be essential.

5. CITATION STRUCTURE

APA style, 7th edition, is used for citation guidelines.

Short direct quotations of three lines or less are integrated into the text using quotation marks. The source must be fully cited; for example: Author, year, and page number in the text.

Block quotations are separated from the text by a space at each end and are indented from the left margin without the need for quotation marks. The source must be fully cited; for example: Author, year, and page number in the text.

In-text citations: the author's last name and the publication year of the work are included in parentheses within the sentence.

If the sentence includes the author's last name, only the year is written in parentheses:

According to Pasquali (2011), expressing oneself is therefore barely the prerequisite for successful communication.

If the author is not included in the sentence, both the last name and the year are written in parentheses:

Expressing oneself is therefore barely the prerequisite for successful communication (Pasquali, 2011).

If the work has more than two authors, all last names are cited the first time; in subsequent mentions, only the first author's last name is written, followed by the phrase et al.:

There is a certain lack of didactic strategies in the regular classroom to support the integration process of children (Henao, Ramírez & Giraldo, 2000).

According to Henao et al. (2000), there is a certain lack of didactic strategies in the regular classroom to support the integration process of children.

If there are more than six authors, et al. is used from the very first mention.

Footnotes will be used only to provide clarifications or additional information. They must not be used for bibliographic references.

If citing a work that has been cited within another work (i.e., a secondary source), the text must reference the original work and name its author. Next, the primary source from which the citation is taken must be indicated, preceded by the phrase "as cited in." Only the primary source should be included in the reference list, unless the secondary source was also used as a primary source. Examples:

Arendt (as cited in Suárez, 1992, p. 128) presents an analysis.

The text presents the preceding analysis (Arendt as cited in Suárez, 1992, p. 128).

To cite classic texts, it is recommended to specify the original publication date and the publication date of the specific work being used. If the original publication year cannot be identified, only reference the year of the work used, preceded by the abbreviation "Trans." Sections of classic works—such as books, chapters, verses, lines, or cantos—are systematically numbered throughout the works, and such numbers should be used instead of page numbers. It is not necessary to include classic works in the reference list.

Aristotle states in On Interpretation that: "A noun is a spoken sound significant by convention, without time, none of whose parts is significant in separation" (Trans. 2008, 2, 20).

Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations (1776/1983) explains this.

To cite legal documents within the text, the name of the legal document must be referenced, accompanied by the year and the corresponding numbering.

The Court stated: "Constitutional principles, and among them are the guiding principles of social policy" (Judgment T-1091 of 2000).

"The people of Colombia, in the exercise of their sovereign power" (Political Constitution of Colombia of 1991, 2002, p. 9).

6. REFERENCE LIST

They must appear at the end of the text.

Alphabetical order by the first letter of the reference.

Works by the same author are ordered chronologically.

Hanging indent format and single-spaced.
