Abstract

Objective: To contrast the invariance by sex, internal consistency estimate and comparing the central tendency of the Marital Aggrandizement Scale (MAS) between both sexes, comparing three factor models. Method: The Marital Aggrandizement Scale (MAS) has been developed in order to control the distortion to an excessively positive assessment of the marital relationship. The MAS was applied to 431 women and 376 men married or cohabiting in Monterrey, Mexico. Random routes sampling was used. Results: The two-factor model provided the best properties of invariance, although items 9 and 18 showed greater weight in women. In both sexes, the internal consistency was good on the scale and the positive feelings factor, and acceptable in the negative feelings factor. There were no differences in central tendency on the scale and its factors. Conclusion: The two-factor model has acceptable gender invariance.
