Gigantes tecnológicos y poder en plataformas de inteligencia artificial: una revisión crítica

Estudios críticos, administrativos y técnicos de comunicación y de ciencias sociales suelen diagnosticar vínculos estrechos entre los gigantes tecnológicos (Big Tech) y el nuevo verano de la inteligencia artificial (IA). Ese consenso se sintetiza en la idea de Big AI y supone que los modelos subsimbólicos funcionan bajo la premisa “más grande es mejor” (bigger is better). Sin embargo, existen pocos análisis que sistematicen los principales argumentos de ese acuerdo tácito. Por ello, el objetivo de este artículo es reconstruir, mediante revisión de literatura académica y análisis documental, las tesis más habituales que advierten sobre relaciones de fuerza en las IA predictiva y generativa de gran escala (Big AI). Así, el primer apartado recupera estudios sobre las dinámicas de capitalización bursátil, las dimensiones político-institucionales y las condiciones geopolíticas que coagulan una macro-tecnificación de la IA. Luego, se exploran investigaciones sobre los procesos de industrialización del capitalismo de la IA y sus consecuencias, tanto para las cadenas de valor asociadas como para los ecosistemas de aplicaciones (apps). Por último, se recobran pesquisas sobre la plataformización de servicios de aprendizaje automático y profundo como manifestación del impulso de la organización industrial. Así, los resultados sistematizan tres ejes discursivos que evalúan el poder en la multiplicación de aplicaciones de modelos fundacionales, pero, además, delimitan las fronteras para la conceptualización de las relaciones de fuerza en la ubicuidad de la Big AI. Por ello, las conclusiones discuten áreas de vacancia ligadas a la necesidad de estudios situados que recorran toda la pila tecnológica y que se detengan en el poder infraestructural en IA.
