Methodological Contributions to the Academic Study of Ancient Christian Literature
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article examines the methodology involved in academic research on ancient Christian literature. Its objective is to provide methodological tools for scholars approaching ancient Christian literature from an academic perspective, particularly researchers and students beginning in this field of study. With a primarily practical purpose, the introduction clarifies both the methodological perspective and the specific object of research in studies of ancient Christian literature. The body of the article is divided into two complementary sections. The first describes the various stages involved in the development of a research project and explains the methodological relationship that should exist among its different sections. The second section offers guidelines for the analysis of texts from the Patristic period, proposing criteria and orientations for the historical understanding of ancient Christian sources. Finally, the conclusion briefly addresses the relationship between history and theology in the academic study of the ancient Christian tradition. The article seeks to contribute to the methodological strengthening of Patristic Studies and to the rigorous development of research in theology and the humanities.
