Abstract
The traditional analysis of Rousseau’s work since the French Revolution has led to con- sider him as one of the fathers of modern democracy. Contrarily, this paper explores the possibility, taking into account Norberto Bobbio’s recommendation, to identify totalitarian aspects in The Social Contract by Rousseau. This inquiry is based on the analysis of concepts such as sovereignty and general will.
