Abstract
This article examines the role of reflective knowledge through the figure of the mediator introduced by Habermas in his essay Once Again on the Relationship Between Theory and Praxis, in his effort to link specialized knowledge with the lifeworld in order to safeguard humanity’s self-understanding. The conclusions will highlight the cracks in the mediator’s thinking and propose, in response, an ethics of self-correction and the management of one’s own arbitrariness. The article concludes with the idea of an authentic academic community capable of acting with solidarity and empathy, through thought and language that are truly binding and liberating.
