The Dominican Idea of University as a Fundamental Contribution for the Colombian Student Movement

Abstract

The law reform project to change the Law 30 of Education in Colombia, presented by the current Government of President Santos in the term 2011, more than criticism by several social sectors of the Nation, generated an student movement that, through the Mesa Amplia Nacional Estudiantil (MANE), achieved, in the last semester of 2011, what was not achieved by university students for more than four decades: an strong voice that was listened, in order to modify an specific component of the State public politics. However, once the polemic law project was retired by the executive administration, it seemed like the movement had gone into a state of ideological lethargy towards what they should continue to pursue, and thus, not realizing that the Dominican idea of university offers a rich ideological doctrine to found the ideological base of this new and encouraging social group, which has more strongly broke into during the last year in Colombia.
