Mortality due to human immunodeficiency virus in Colombia

Abstract

A Descriptive study of 15.040 deaths caused by HIV/AIDS was made in Colombia in period 1985 -2001. It was usedassource of the information the data base of monality of me DANE, mat has Jike primary source the death registry. An average rate for de period in study of mortality by VIH/SIDA due to HIV/AIDS was 2,37 by 100.000 inhabitants. The men contributed almost nine of each ten deaths by this cause. Mortality by HIV/ AIDS had an ascending tendency as of year 1988. By age group, people of25 to 44 years contributed with almost 70% of the deaths by this cause. Infections were the main basic causes ofdeath, specially by Mycobacterium and pneumonia by Pneumocystis jiroveci.
