Abstract
Objective: To validate the Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale in Mexican older adults since there are no studies on its psychometric properties in Mexico despite its extensive use in research for this population. Method: an instrumental psychometric study was conducted in 150 Mexican older adults selected in an intentional non-probabilistic way, with an average age of 68.38 years, 30% men and 70% women, who answered the Spanish version of the Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale with 15 items. Results: a one-dimensional structure was found that explains 55% of the variance of the construct and adequate reliability (Alpha ordinal=.94) Discussion and conclusions: the results are consistent with what was found in other populations so it is considered that the scale is reliable and valid to measure depression in Mexican older adults.
