Desire of god in Miguel de Unamuno’s work

Abstract

Miguel de Unamuno’s work arises constantly, through a paradoxical language, the problema of God; especially in his work Del Sentimiento trágico de la vida (The Tragic sense of Life). Such a problem is arisen in the light of two perspectives: the one of a thought God and the one of a felt God. In both cases
we find a personal God, which is found via experiential intuition and withdrawal. Some similarities with san Juan de la Cruz are recognized, mainly, the mystic privilege of feeling over understanding and of experience over rationality.
