Which is the Real Relevance of Saint Paul Today? Annotations to Evaluate his Newsness Nowadays

Carlos Gil Arbiol

Abstract

This year dedicated to St. Paul has been a good occasion to look over again the originality and the place taken by St. Paul in the first Christian century. It is also the time to inquire about its relevance and contribution to the burning issues today as well as the implications it has in the dialogue between culture and faith or, if in the contrary, St. Paul has to remain confined in a rancid sacristy and cornered in ecclesiastical and social circles. The author presents five
aspects of the experience and horizons of St. Paul he feels are relevant today, taking into account an interpretation in the context and pointing to some present consequences for the Church and Society alike: (1) the dialogue with culture, (2) the marginal position of faith, (3) The incompatibility of faith and law, (4) the building communities of believers and (5) the experience of God.
