SUBMISSION INFORMATION

The journal accepts two types of contributions related to the field of communication: research articles, which present original research findings, and reflection articles, which develop academic reflections (this category includes essays, chronicles, critical reviews, and reflective texts in general). In addition, photographic series or graphic reportages are also accepted.

Authors must submit three separate files through the OJS system of Revista Comunicación (registration required): Cover Page, Original Manuscript, and Statement of Originality.

The journal has an open call for articles in Spanish and English.

There are no submission or processing fees for authors. All journal content is open access.

For any inquiries, please contact: revista.comunicacion@upb.edu.co

The manuscript must be prepared in Microsoft Word, letter size, with 3 cm margins on all sides, 1.5 line spacing, Times New Roman, 12-point font.

Length: between 5,000 and 8,000 words (including tables, figures, references, and notes).

  • Analytical abstract in Spanish and English (maximum 300 words), describing the central idea, objectives, methodology, main findings, and conclusions

  • At least five keywords in Spanish and English

  • Introduction: a concise presentation of the current state of the research problem, its objectives, and a synthesis of the justification

  • Theoretical framework: evidence of a review of the most relevant national and international literature, according to the scope of the study

  • Methodology: description of the methodological design used for data collection and analysis; when applicable, description of the population, sample, and justification for their selection

  • Results analysis: presentation of the most relevant results in a logical sequence, including only essential tables or figures

  • Discussion and conclusions: summary of findings in relation to the objectives, comparison of empirical evidence with theory and the authors’ observations, and presentation of data-supported conclusions; contributions, limitations, and possible future research directions should be highlighted

  • References: list of cited academic sources; preference is given to publications from the last five years and to peer-reviewed journals

Research articles must present results derived from original research processes, clearly stating the research problem, detailing the methodology used, and discussing the main findings and conclusions.

Reflection articles must demonstrate a rigorous process of systematization and analysis of literature on a recent and current research topic. They must also describe the methodology used and include a review of at least 50 recent and valid references.

The maximum number of authors is three, except in cases where a higher number is duly justified.

1.3 Statement of Originality

A document signed by the author(s). Download it by clicking here.

  • Tables and figures must be embedded in the Word document and placed in the appropriate location according to the authors’ criteria.

  • Tables must be created directly in Microsoft Word so they are editable.

  • Tables and figures must follow the most recent APA format, be numbered, and include a caption indicating the source.

  • Figures must also be uploaded as supplementary files at the time of submission, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

2. SUBMISSION ORGANIZATION – PHOTOGRAPHIC SERIES OR GRAPHIC REPORTAGES

Photographic series or graphic reportages will be accepted provided they rigorously articulate image and text and fulfill a narrative and aesthetic function.

They must include:

  • Title in Spanish and English

  • A photographic series consisting of 15 to 20 images, presented as a coherent set from a narrative and conceptual perspective

  • Abstract in Spanish and English (maximum 150 words)

  • Keywords in Spanish and English (3 to 5)

  • Introductory text contextualizing the series, outlining its conceptual, methodological, or narrative approach, and justifying its relevance

  • Reportage text (optional). If included, it must not exceed 2,500 words and must explicitly engage in dialogue with the photographic series.

Technical Requirements for Images

  • Format: JPEG (.jpg)

  • Resolution: 300 dpi

  • Recommended minimum size: 10 × 8 cm (final reproduction size)

  • Images must be submitted individually, not embedded in text documents

  • Each file must be named and numbered consecutively (Image_01, Image_02, etc.)

Technical and visual quality will be a central evaluation criterion.

Captions and Credits

Captions and credits must be submitted in a separate file. Each caption must clearly identify the corresponding image number and provide relevant contextual information, avoiding redundant descriptions. Credits must indicate authorship and, where applicable, usage conditions.

IMPORTANT: Ethical Considerations and Copyright

The author must guarantee ownership of copyright or hold the corresponding permissions. In the case of identifiable individuals, respect for dignity, privacy, and informed consent must be ensured (properly completed documentation required). The journal may request additional clarifications if deemed necessary.

Editorial Evaluation

Photographic series will be evaluated by the Editorial Committee and, when appropriate, by academic peer reviewers, based on thematic relevance, narrative coherence, conceptual rigor, and technical quality.

ANTI-PLAGIARISM REVIEW

All submissions are screened using Turnitin, with a maximum similarity threshold of 20%. Manuscripts involving plagiarism, self-plagiarism, redundant or fragmented publication, improper authorship, data manipulation, excessive self-citation, or uncited references will be rejected.

GENERAL EVALUATION PROCESS

All submissions undergo an initial review by the Editorial Committee. If approved, they are sent for evaluation by two anonymous reviewers. In the event of conflicting reports, a third reviewer will be appointed.

The estimated time between submission and publication is six (6) months.

The journal does not require authors to cite their own previous work and does not publish manuscripts involving conflicts of interest or ethical issues.

CITATION FORMAT

The most recent APA system will be used.

Short quotations (fewer than 40 words) are included in quotation marks; longer quotations are presented as block quotes without quotation marks. In both cases, author, year, and page number must be indicated.

Footnotes should be used only for clarifications, not for bibliographic references.

REFERENCES LIST

References must appear at the end of the manuscript, in alphabetical order, with hanging indentation and single spacing, following the most recent APA format.
