The case of infectious diseases: Itraconazole as an alternative therapy to iodides in the treatment of sporotrichosis

Abstract

This work Isa review of 8 patients with the diagnosis of sporotrichosis, established by the isolation of Soporotrix Schenckil in culture, who had received treatment with iodides without Improvement or presenting secondary effects that led to Interruption of treatment. These patients were treated with the new imidazolic derivative, Itraconazole. All lesions disappeared and the cultures turned negative in a variable period of 60 - 180 days. Neither side effects nor altered laboratory tests were noticed. Thus Itraconazole arises as a new alternative for the treatment of sporotrichosis.
