Abstract

Eleven patients with paracoccidioidomycosis who completed a course of therapy with Itraconazole were followed during the post-therapy period, all of them during 12 months and 4 for longer periods (24 - 48 months). These were no relapses, nor fatalities related to the mycosis Clinical and radiological outcome was satisfactory and there remained only residual findings such as dyspnea and fibrosis. Serologic tests showed decreased antibody activity In comparison with the results obtained at the beginning of therapy. These findings suggest that Itraconazole constitutes an adequate treatment for paracoccidioidomycosis patients.
