Abstract
The objective of this study was to analyze if there are emotional, personality, neuropsychological, neurobiological and immunological differences between men who have sex with men with low and high risk sexual behaviors. Methodologies and theories of behavioral sciences, neurosciences and traditional procedures were applied at the cellular and molecular level with a group of 30 HIV-negative participants from Medellín, Colombia. The participants were classified into two smaller groups according to the frequency of sexual partners in the last three months. Results: The main finding of this study was to have detected some psychological differences between the two groups. Depression, stress and neuroticism showed differences between the high-risk group and the low-risk group. None of the other psychological, neuropsychological, neurobiological or immunological variables showed differences between the groups. Conclusions: certain psychological characteristics that differentiated both groups (particularly negative emotionality) were identified, but there were no differences in the neuropsychological or immunological profiles.
