Abstract

Ernst Cassirer has been known, generally, as a historian of ideas, relegating his philosophical proposal to background. However, all their philosophical foundation, despite succumbing to the language of idealism and having a distinctly Kantian background, it opens new horizons of understanding, given in the symbol. That’s why through the symbolic forms Cassirer goes from a critique of pure reason, to a critique of culture, where all human activity is manifested.
