Abstract

This paper analyzes an Old Latin carmen the “Prayer to Mars,” written in early Republican times by Cato at De Agri Cultura 141.2–3, but generally regarded as already ancient in the orator’s time, because the Prayer is consider one of the typical crafts of the Indo-European poetry, since Benveniste’s and Dumezil’s works.
