An Ethical Reading of Deleuze?

Abstract

Can we carry out an ethical reading of the work of Gilles Deleuze? The simple answer is that, although he is best known for his work in political philosophy, aesthetics and ontology, his thought also contains elements (themes related to freedom, power, subjectivity, and the relationship of the individual to the world) that could be interpreted from an ethical perspective. But our response, although it takes the above into account, goes the other way: we raise the question of the existence of a certain circularity between ethics and reading, but also, in a twist, between ethics and reading confronted with each other. And we do it from two scenarios: the reading that Deleuze makes of certain philosophers and the reading that his commentators (and we in this article) make of his work, continuing an internal movement of thinking from Deleuze towards other works. Ultimately, it comes down to the issue of reading and commenting.
