The concept of death in Epicurus

Abstract

Epicurus, philosopher of the Hellenistic period of Greece, developed in his Ethic a rational view on death, criticizing therefore the irrational way in which is
assumed by most of human beings. Bearing this in mind, he argues that is necessary for human beings to move away from pain through pleasure and,
thus, reach happiness and the prime of life. He also suggests that fear to death should be avoided, since this would mean the loss of pleasure and the harsh
decrease of options to obtain a happy life. Schopenhauer, in his Philosophical thinking, has a resemblance with the way the Greek philosopher deals with the
problem of death.
