Abstract

The author shows how the Israelites worked out their own laws from the old codes of the Mesopotamian area in the second millennium before the common era. These Jewish laws defend the person and the community basic rights. This study shows how the close relationship evolves between the Bible and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Many situations in the world today could have different dimensions, if peoples, governments and societies were aware
of this realtionship and assumed its consequences in their own lives.
