Abstract
The great advances reached by the scientific knowledge of the cosmos from Darwin to Einstein, Hubble and Hawking are challenging and questioning the Christian theological thinking. The answer has been given by the so called theologians of science, among whom stand out Charles Hartshorne, Ian Barbour, John Polinhorne and Arthur Peacoke and also the Magisterium of Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI. This article draws a synthesis of those scientific advances and the answers given by the Christian theology, showing at the same time, the possibilities of a dialogue full of promises, not only between science, theology and the Christian thought but also between the contributions given by science to the development of theology, its method and comprehension of God and man.
