Indigenous women of the Vaupés in the national Police of Colombia: an analysis of their experiences as police auxiliaries

Abstract
This research characterizes the experiences of indigenous women as police assistants in the Department of Vaupés, Colombia, who were selected to be incorporated into the National Police on a voluntary basis. Method: A mixed type research is proposed, under
a descriptive paradigm; Information was collected through in-depth interviews with five participants, where their motivations, challenges, contributions to the community, development opportunities and the impact on public perception regarding the service
provided by these young women were explored. for the community at large, as well as from the perspective of their own communities. Results: Shared experiences reveal remarkable resilience and commitment beyond traditional police functions, contributing positively to community dynamics. Trust between the police and the community is strengthened through the presence of indigenous women, acting as cultural mediators. The importance of implementing inclusive policies and specific training programs is evident to address identified challenges and foster a work environment that celebrates diversity. Conclusions:
The findings offer a valuable perspective to strengthen the representation of indigenous women in security roles, weaving a more inclusive and culturally sensitive future of society.
