Abstract

In recent decades there has been an increase in gated communities, these are explained by globalization and neoliberalism; however, these explanations are very general. Therefore, supported by a heterodox view of the urban economy is to establish how these relate to the promotion of the real estate market. The analysis challenges some of the major explanatory paradigms; but evidence of the role of financial groups, the pursuit of distinction by the plaintiffs and the offer has tax demands a new “mark up” through the “neighborhood externalities”.
