Notes on the history of pediatrics in Antioquia

Abstract

An abridged description of the development of Pediatrics in Antioquia, concerning the teaching and assistance aspects, from November 20, 1911 up the current times is done. The first date corresponds to the No. 1 Registration entry in the University of Antioquia Medical School Pediatric Clinic "Annual Examination Register ". Historical aspects of the foundation of the Clinica Noel, the Outpatient Clinics and the State of Antioquia Red Cross Children's Hospital, the City of Medellin's Mother Child Out-patient Clinics, the Santa Ana Children's Center, the pediatrics service of the local Social Security, the Pediatric Ward at the General Hospital, the "Clarita Santos" and "Arzobispo Cavzsdo" Pavilion at the San Vicente University Hospital, are outlined. The very important work and influence of the Pediatrics Society since its foundation in 1946 on the development of Pediatrics is mentioned. Acknowledgement IS done of the work of professors Nepomuceno Jimenez, Jorge Tobon, Rafael Mejia, Alberto Uribe, Luis Martinez, Gustavo Gonzalez, Benjamin Mejia, among other founders and impulsors of the "Antioquia School of Pediatrics".
