Rectal procidence. A series of 18 patients

Abstract
Results obtained with surgical treatment through three different surgical procedures of rectopexy are presented In a series of 18 patients with rectal procidentia. AII these patients consulted at Hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe, Medellin, Colombia, between March 1971 and May 1989 (18 years). Age promedium was 66.5 years (37-87); 16 were female patients (88.8%) and 2 male patients (11. 1%). 10 female patients had been performed vaginal hysterectomy (9) or the diagnosis of associated hysterocele (1). Orr-Loygue technique was used in 8 patients (44.4%), Notaras technique In 5 patients (27.7%) and Ripsteln technique In 5 patients (27.7%), three early complications were present in 3 of the S patients In Ripsteln technique (difficult defecation, abdominal distension, rectal perforation). No complications were present with the other two techniques. One patent died In the Immediate post operatory period (5.5%). In all the remaining 17 patients had a clinical follow up: It was excellent In 11 (S.3 years) and good in 4 patients (7.2 months); two patients had no follow up. AII known patients (15) had an adequate correction and none of them hove presented relapses in their condition.
