Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To study the relationships between psychological well-being and health-related quality of life in a Colombian population of preschool boys and girls from the Colombian Atlantic coast.
Method: A quantitative study was carried out with a non-experimental design, cross-sectional and descriptive-correlational in scope. Population sample of 229 Colombian preschool children between 3- and 6-years old residing in the department of Córdoba; The Colombian version of the Children Well-Being Scale (CPWS) and TAPQOL (Preschool Children Quality of Life Questionnaire) questionnaires were used. Descriptive statistical analyzes of the sociodemographic information of the participants and the CPWS and TAPQOL questionnaires, the Mann-Whitney U were developed to determine the existence of significant differences between the scores of boys and girls and Sperman correlations.
Results: Significant differences and mean effect sizes were found in the variables of respiratory tract disorders, sleep and conduct problems with a greater presence in male children. At the correlation level, positive relationships were found for children between the CPWS resilience dimension and the TAPQOl dimensions, respiratory problems, sleep problems, and appetite problems. While negative correlations were found for girls between the dimensions of the CPWS self-concept and satisfaction with life with the functionally social dimension of the TAPQOL.
Conclusion: Interesting indicators were found on the state of the Colombian pre-school child population at the level of quality of life and psychological well-being where there is a lack of studies in this significant stage of the life cycle.
