Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the relationships between the sense of life, religious or spiritual beliefs and practices, and religious social support in older adults who profess a religion during the confinement caused by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. A non-experimental descriptive correlational cross-sectional design was used. The sample consisted of forty-seven non-institutionalized older adults who professed a religion. The PIL scale revealed high levels of a sense of purpose in life, and the SBI-15R scale identified strong religious and spiritual beliefs and high religious social support. At the correlational level, it was found that religious and spiritual beliefs and practices had a positive correlation with the sense of life, and furthermore, that the greater the religious social support, the greater the sense of achievement in the older individuals in this study. It was concluded that religious or spiritual beliefs and practices and religious social support derived from the community that shares those beliefs are related to the sense of life, and especially religious social support is linked to a sense of achievement.
