Luis de León, Writer and Lawyer: Concerning a Passage of The Names of Christ
Main Article Content
Abstract
Luis de León is both a writer and a lawyer. In the chapter "King of God" ["Rey de Dios"] of his work The Names of Christ [De los nombres de Cristo], the Augustinian friar presents a summary of the classic theory of application of law. Based on a definition of natural law as "the means to rule the kingdom", the author reveals the educational purpose of laws and takes a step forward an explanation of the role played by divine grace in practical knowledge. In the light of de León's book, the article presents some aspects of his legal theory, arguing that his literary work might also be read as a work in the field of philosophy of justice.
