Arcoli, an innovation challenge for UPB
Main Article Content
Abstract
In February 2018, we started the project Development of a water treatment hybrid system for the metal-mechanic industry: case study Arcoli S.A.S. together with a team of pharmaceutical chemists and chemical and mechanical engineers from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana. The aim is to find an applicable and scalable solution in a given time and with a reasonable investment of resources. The study was commissioned by a company in the metalworking sector of the city of Medellín, directed by Carlos Andrés Arango Martínez. The project is, literally, quite a challenge.
However, that was not all. This application was framed in what Tecnnova –a corporation that promotes applied research projects among universities, companies and the State– calls an innovation challenge. In the words of Camilo Andrés García Giraldo, director of operations at Tecnova, the connection is generated through challenges, opportunities and technological solutions, as a means to articulate university research groups with the productive sector, within the framework of the business roundtable led by the corporation. The challenge strategy arises in 2015 and, as pointed out by the official, its main audience consists of small and medium-sized manufacturing companies seeking to complement their technical capabilities to bet on development and innovation.
