Abstract

In the period January 1987 to August 1989, the Mycology Laboratory of the CIB diagnosed 1.033 dermatomycosis cases. From these, 513 (33.9%) corresponded to dermatophytosis, with a predominance of mole patients (328 or 63.9%) and of adult individuals (444 or 8ó.5%). The most commonly observed dermatophytosis was tinea pedis (200 cases. 34.8% and the etiologic agent most frequently implicated was T. rubrum (225 cases, 43.8%). The above findings indicate that dematophytosis are an important cause of skin diseases in our population.
