The infectious case. Zygomycosis rhino-facial

Abstract

A case of an apportunistic zygomycotic infection in a 52 years old man with a previously diagnosed non-Hodgkin lymphoma is presented. Although fungal infection by Absidia sp. is favored here by several critical underlying conditions such as severe leucopenia and granulocyte deficiency as well as by the use of aggressive chemotherapy, rhinofacial presentation without central nervous system involvement or other characteristic clinical features is noticeable. Accompanying pulmonary manifestations are observed in this case but, unfortunately, their cause was not established eventhough fungal dissemination was strongly suspected.
