Abstract

Based on the concepts of Hippocrates ("Primun non nocere"), Jesus ("I came to serve and not to be served") and Don Pedro Calderón de la Barca ("!Given that life is a dream and that dreams are...just dreams, then dream, my soul, let us dream!"), fundamental pillars of medical practice, an analysis is made of the great change that the practice of medicine has undergone.
Before we talked about doctor and patient, today it's company and dient, or user; what used to be art and priesthood is now science and technology. What before was kindly asked for is now demanded. In contraposition to yesteryears' respectful obedience we find today's aggressiveness. Confidence is now opposed by inconfidence. Before it was honoraries, today, rates. In this way the different medical topics where changes have been dramatic are analyzed.
This article ends with the expression of a few ideals, where equilibrium is called for, and where health care is governed by the principIes of universality, solidarity, integrity, equity and efficiency, and where the participation of all those involved can be expected.
