Abstract

It is with great pleasure that we present to our readers the first issue of 2023 Medicina UPB, which contains 12 manuscripts: five of them are original research, five are narrative reviews, and two are case reports.

The first of the originals is a controlled clinical trial on two types of fasting in patients undergoing intervention under local anesthesia. It is a matter of debate since there are no clear regulations on the most appropriate fasting in these cases, so the experiment carried out contributes to decision-making on this important matter.

The next three studies are on mental health. The first deals with substance use in patients with schizophrenia. It is of great relevance given the seriousness of both entities, dependence and neurodevelopmental disorder, which worsen when they occur together in the same patient.
