Abstract

Through the retrospective analysis of 55 medical records with a diagnosis of malaria, a descriptive study was carried out about the behavior of this disease. As important findings, we had; In 28% of the patients, the parasitemia was mixed (Plasmodium vivax and P. tetciperum), there were 2 cases of post-transfusion malaria and 2 of malaria acquired in Medellín. Of 3 cases withCerebral malaria, P vivax was found in one, perhaps due to having mistaken the Plasmodium type because it was mixed parasitaemia that was not evidenced in the hemoparasite plate. There was recurrence of the disease in 18.2%.
