Abstract

Capnography is a noninvasive monitoring method for patients in Intensive Care Units or Intraoperative. The capnogram provides the physician, particularly the anesthesiologist, with Important Information about the patient’s cardiovascular, Pulmonary and metabolic status. With this Information the physician will be able to: detect critical Incidents, such as esophageal intubation; control patient’s ventilation, so the PC02 will be the nearest to normal values; guide weaning from mechanical ventilation, and predict outcome from cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Moreover, from analysis of alteration of end tidal carbon dioxide (PetCO2), the physician could suspect numerous pathologies, Such as malignant hyperthermia, pulmonary embolism, hypothermia. an others.
