Occupational risk of viral infectious diseases in health workers

Abstract

The issue ofocupational exposure to blood-borne viral pathogens is discuted, especialIy hepatitis B,hepatitis C,and Human Inmunodeficiency Virus, because of the high prevalence of these and the severity of the diseases they cause. Occupational risk of suffering an infection by one of these three viruses is mentioned: their is a 0.3% riskfor VIH,6-30% for VHB, and 10% for VHC, after occupational exposure. Prevention and management after exposure to blood-borne pathogens are also mentioned.
