Validation and reliability of the Academic Procrastination Scale in university students in Peru

Abstract
Academic procrastination is defined as a difficulty in self-regulation processes that leads to the voluntary delay of planned activities, even when a worse situation is anticipated as a consequence of the delay; it has negative consequences, thus information about it is needed. The objective of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Academic Procrastination Scale (Busko, 1998) in the version adapted by Álvarez (2010). The study involved 343 university students in Peru from various degree programs aged between 18 and 25 years. The 16-item scale was administered online after obtaining the participants’ informed consent. The results showed that the scale had the same structure as the original but with 8 items, with an adequate fit and good reliability (ordinal α = .86). In conclusion, a version with evidence of reliability and construct validity to measure academic procrastination was obtained.
