Monitoring structural health to reduce the risk of “sick” buildings

Abstract
The landscape is composed of irregular and steep slopes through which more than 200 tributaries flow down to reach the Medellín River along the Aburrá Valley, a portion of 1,152 km² of the Central Mountain Range of the Andes. Made up of 10 municipalities, the region is inhabited by 4,081,000 people, and only 29% of its territory is urban and concentrates 95% of the population, according to figures from the Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística (DANE).
