This study aimed to understand the therapeutic relationship in a virtual environment from the therapist’s perspective, considering the digital resources used by therapists in online psychotherapy. The research adopts a qualitative methodological approach based on grounded theory and involves three therapists experienced in both face-to-face and online psychotherapy. Data were collected in the digital world through field journals and in-depth interviews. The results highlight that the therapeutic relationship is formed through virtual interactions by appropriating the media ecosystem, an environment co-created by the therapist and the patient. It is concluded that, from the therapist’s experience, the formation of the therapeutic relationship begins with the first digital contact, and the content and media used gradually shape the virtual experience, framing the therapeutic context.
