Abstract
This paper pretends to make some observations on the Colombian State and its challenges concerning security. After a brief historic consideration, it will be shown how, departing from what it is called now Reforma Pastrana –understood as a series of measurements taken by the government in order to reinforce the Public Force of the country–, sustained by the Política de Defensa y Seguridad Democrática of Alvaro Uribe, the Colombian political class and its citizens have been consistently acknowledged the importance of an active and powerful armed force that be able to recover territory control and arms monopoly, and to solve the crisis of the State security. It is also shown that nevertheless the security policies in Colombia follow to be immersed in electoral processes every four years term.
