Author Guidelines

FORM AND PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS

The call for articles aims to receive manuscripts in the following academic categories:

 

- Scientific Articles: paper that presents in-depth the original results of research projects. Generally, the article is organized using the following structure: Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.  

- Scientific Reflection Paper: paper that presents the results of a research from the analytic, interpretative or critical perspective of the author on a particular topic and using original sources.  

- Review Articles: paper that is the result of a research in which published or unpublished researches in the field of Political Theory are systematized, analyzed and discussed, with the purpose of providing information on the current state of understanding and the tendencies in this particular area of knowledge.

- Reviews: paper that presents bibliographical novelties within the areas of academic and divulgation works in the field of Political Theory. It aims to highlight the most relevant issues developed by the author(s) and to present a critical evaluation of the reviewed work.

- Translations: Translation of Writings Please contact the editor if you want to suggest the translation for a text.

Quote Norm or Style APA

Revista de la Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Políticas adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined by the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), sixth edition.

- Short textual quotes, 40 words or less, are incorporated to the text through the use of quotation marks.  Extended textual quotes, with more than 40 words, are inserted in a side paragraph without the use of quotation marks and with a left tabulation (1.25cm).  In both cases, the source must be completely quoted inside the parenthesis, stating the last name of the authors, the year of edition of the work, and the page, all these separated by a comma, and the page number preceded by the abbreviation “p.”. Examples:

  • In the frame of the discussion that we are developing: ‘‘Cortázar starts from hyper literature, from the literature that is known and that is wanted as exclusively literary.  It establishes his period, at first it is poetic, within the reserved domain of the literature itself, pre-established as such’’ (Yurkievich, 1989, p. 128).     

  • For Alfonso Reyes (2001) it is important to rescue the reading practice as it is stated in his work “La Experiencia Literaria”:
    The book, as the sensitive, closes its sheets to the impertinent tact. You have to reach it without being noticed. An exercise, almost of a Fauquier. We have to previously silence all those parasite noises in our spirit, the ones that we bring from the street, the business, and rushes, and even the extensive eagerness for literary information. Then, in silence, the book´s voice starts to be heard, a bit silent, and ready to disappear if it is requested with any suspicious rush. (pp. 149-150

- If the sentence includes the author´s last name, only the date and the page shall be written in the parenthesis. Example: Yurkievich (1989) states in his text that:
‘‘Cortázar starts from hyper literature, from the literature that is known and that is wanted as exclusively literary. It establishes his period, at first it is poetic, within the reserved domain of the literature itself, pre-established as such’’ (p. 128).

- In case of an indirect quote or paraphrasing, the referred author must be stated and the year of publication of the work from where the idea is being used.  Also, even though it is not necessary, the author is invited to include the exact pages with the intention of facilitating the search for such ideas for an interested reader. Example: Foucault (2003) in the birth of bio politics asks about the reason of the State in the context of governmentability (p. 70).

- If the work has more than two authors, it is quoted the first time with all the last names, and in the following mentions, only the first last name of the author is written, followed by the words et al.

- If there are more than six authors, et al. is used from the first mention.

- Footnotes will only be use for clearing statements or to contribute additional data.  They shall not be used for bibliographical references.

- If the quote is for a work quoted within another source, this is a secondary source; the writing must refer to the original work and mention the original author.  Then, the original source from where the quote is taken must be stated with the expression “as quoted in”.  The reference list must only include the primary source, unless the secondary source has also been worked on as a primary source.  Examples:

  • Heidegger (as quoted in Marion, 1992, p. 128) shows an analysis…
  • The text presents the previous analysis (Heidegger as quoted in Marion, 1992, p. 128).

 

Reference List

- Must appear at the end of the text.
- Alphabetical order according to the first letter of the reference.
- Work from a same author is ordered chronologically.
- French space and double space.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The author's information must include the following information: name and surname, title of the last grade of schooling, name of the institution where he/she works, ORCID code, identity document and e-mail address for correspondence.
  • Maximum number of words: 8,000 (including tables, references and notes).
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • All authors must register their ORCID at https://orcid.org/register, and send it, together with their academic record and institutional affiliation, at the moment of sending the document.
  • URLs should be provided for references, preferably DOI.
  • Analytical abstract in Spanish and English with a maximum length of 200 words, describing the main idea, objectives, methodology, most important findings and conclusions.
  • The document should be prepared in Microsoft Word, letter size, 3 cm margins on each side of the page, 1.5 spacing, Arial font, size 12.

Copyright Notice

I represent and warrant to UPB that:

 

(1) The Work is an original work and is not subject to any third party copyright.

(2) I am the sole author of the Work, own all right, title, and interest in and to the Work, and have the power and authority to assign the rights herein and to execute this Authorization; or, alternatively as applicable, there are multiple authors of the Work and each author’s contributions are intended to be inseparable parts of a unitary whole and I am a co-author of the Work and, together with the co-authors set forth below, own all right, title, and interest in and to the Work, and have the power and authority to assign the rights herein and to execute this Authorization.

(3) To the best of my knowledge, the information, data, and conclusions presented in the Work are accurate. In the event I become aware of inaccuracies after submission of the Work to UPB, I shall immediately notify UPB and take all steps deemed necessary by UPB to correct any such inaccuracies.

(4) All artwork in the Work is original to one or more authors of the Work; or alternatively, to the extent artwork is not original, I have obtained necessary permissions consistent with this Authorization and will provide them to UPB with this Authorization.

(6) This research has not been previously published; or alternatively, if any portion of the research has been published, I will provide copies of the material to UPB with this authorization.

(7) The Work is not currently under consideration for publication by another publication.

(8) I will not submit the Work to another publication unless and until UPB chooses not to publish the Work.

I agree to hold harmless UPB from any damage or expense that may arise in the event of a breach of any of the representations and warranties set forth above. Nothing herein shall obligate UPB to publish the Work in Revista de la Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Políticas. In the event that the Work is not published by UPB, this Authorization becomes null and void. The invalidity of any portion of this Authorization shall not affect the enforceability of the remainder of this Authorization. Copies of an executed version of this Authorization may be treated as an original for all purposes.

By signing this Authorization, I hereby acknowledge that I have read and understand this Authorization and agree to its terms.
