Abstract

Understanding the dynamics of social construction of slums is a key issue for social sciences due to their fast expansion trend in the current city construction and setting. The emergence of slums shows that the State intervention has not been enough since the governments social response regarding housing proves to be short; and when they intervene they aim to solve physical and urbanistic issues, disregarding the fact that the city is social and plural and that its foundations lay on its citizens’ dreams and needs, even outside legal frameworks.
