Urbanism and housing policy in the metropolitan area of Madrid

Abstract

This paper shows the most important outstanding urban actions carried out in the Metropolitan Area of Madrid, by the public administration in both aspects: town planning and housing policy. When being interconnected the legislation of Land Use (Leyes del Suelo) –which has been directing the territorial policy during democratic period-, and the successive housing plans, the main chronologic moments have been determined to show how housing policy has influenced the urban territorial development.
