Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper is part of research regarding the awareness and implementation of Law 53 from 1977 by some companies of Medellin’s Metropolitan Area. This law establishes that for companies having more than 500 workers, the hiring of a social worker for each 500 affiliated workers plus an additional professional for 200 workers is mandatory. This professional should engage in the processes aiming at the welfare and development of workers and their families. At present it is not clear if companies are aware of this law and if they implement it.
This pioneering research follows a mixed method involving qualitative, descriptive and exploratory components and focused on the companies within the Metropolitan Area which were legally registered before the Superintendence of Commerce. As a strategy, the case study was employed and the sample was collected within the planned time frame, encompassing the companies which accepted to participate in this research. For data collection, both questionnaires and interviews were employed and were processed by EPIINFO and ATLAS TI software.
