Abstract

The following text is the result of the investigation on “Paternity in Medellin’s families affected by interfamilial violence”, done between February 2007 and June 2008, by researchers from The Institute for the Marriage and Family; The Faculty in Psychology; and The Theology, Philosophy and Ecclesiastic Sciences School from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin. One is a qualitative study of case study, that it describes the evolution of the status, the role and the paternal functions and its characteristics within Antioquian culture, demonstrations of the patriarchal model and the current transition phenomenon towards a new family model not yet clearly defined in the practice.
It associates these living experiences and confusions generated by the transition, with violent situations being lived by families in Medellin, from a comparison between previous theoretical outlines and therapeutic conversation analysis with a family which evidences the domestic violence phenomenon.
