Abstract

The objective of this article is to present some of the main theoretical issues about intimate partner violence (IPV) and its implications in the lives not only of the victim, but also of the affected families as well. This phenomenon has been recognized as a multi-causal and multidimensional public health problem reaching alarming levels with its known consequences.


The theoretical revision that we present is part of the ongoing research: “Assessment of biological, physiologic and psychological variables in victims of intimate partner violence before and after psychotherapy process”. This study is endorsed by the Integrated Centre for the Development of Research from the Bolivarian Pontifical University in Medellín, Colombia.
