Abstract
The present article analyzes the centrality of the concept of public sphere in the work of Jürgen Habermas, reviewing separately the two characteristic moments: the critical paradigm and the communicative paradigm. It corresponds to an investigation into the need to rethinking traditional views about the public and overcome the liberal budgets towards a redefinition of the concept that prioritizes its emancipatory potential.
